Plan A, B, C…. Easy as 1, 2, 3?
It has been over 3 months since the last webpost. Teasing of plans, things already organised, ISBF spreading its wings, doing things we'd never done before…. and then?
Just 3 months ago. It feels like an eternity, doesn't it?
Needless to say Covid-19 changes everything. My personal plans for 2020 being the least of it. Retirement? Pah!
Covid also makes other plans change too.
A brief scan of all available information back in late March/Early April made certain decisions inevitable
The decision was as easy as it was inevitable.
There can - unfortunately - be no ISBF at Hemsley House in 2020. Read that…. carefully.
I can see into the future. Call it my superpower if you like. And there is likely to be no scenario where gatherings of people of such size, in one venue, will be permissable. Or even desirable.
Once I'd got there, I took a few days. I was vulnerable. Open to suggestion. And the suggestion came from so far out of left field that it was out of the ball park. And from a close non-beer friend. One who knew that I still wanted to do…. something.
“Why not do something on the Internet? I'll sponsor it……”
Eh? What??? And more importantly, HOW?
BUT…. Then the cogs engaged. And started whirring in this feeble brain.
What if…….
Small pack.
Logistically, I like to keep things simple. And this looks complicated. And - within current restrictions - may not be possible. But the idea goes something like this….
3 sessions. Thursday, Friday and Saturday (Same dates : 12 - 14 November) 6-11pm.
Ticketed. The ticket pays for a random case of 12 mixed beers from some of the UKs finest breweries. Cans & bottles.
Chat. Utilising Twitter, the FB page and - potentially - Zoom rooms.
The possibilities are many. And varied. There could be tasting sessions on Zoom, talks etc (I might even be able to pull off a super special one we had originally planned for Hemsley House this year), live music, specially curated Spotify Playlists…..
It might not work. And it most certainly depends on demand. But I wouldn't mind giving it a go.
Let's face it, what else am I going to do with my holidays this year?
It would be lovely to be able to raise some much needed money for START - given that Plan A was no event at all.
Whaddya think?
Back soon. Stay safe.
